I found Ms. Pratt's essay very hard to read but a little bit easier to to read because she was writing about culture and I really like it that she went in that direction because I love learning different cultures. At the beginning she talks about her son and his friend playing with baseball cards. It is part of learning and she gave it as an ideas of a window linse of how they saw the world. It gave a new vision of literacy. Then she talks about the New Chronicle and how it is an example of an autoethnography and how different cultures value different education values. The she finally introduces the contact zone and safe house. Contact zone is where cultures collide and students learn differently and a safe zone is when everyone is the same. She also has a lot of hards words and I had to re-read the essay multiple times.
At first it is talking about Sam and Willie and how they played with baseball cards. Though the baseball cards the boys learn about other countries and their culture. Then she goes into talking about Danish Royal Achieve in Copenhagen in 1908 and talks about that for a little bit. It talks about the book New Chronicle and Good Government. Then Ms. Pratt explains the contact zone. And lastly talks about the education part of a classroom.
