I really like the essay a whole lot and that its based on a true story about her life. In the into it talks about how the author changed up the names so that you would not know the real peoples name. She was born into slavery and was a slave for 27 years. She tells her story very well. Up until 12 years old she lived with a mistress who was kind and like a friend and teacher.  I: Seven Years Concealed- Childhood

She figured out that she was a slave at six years old. She didn't feel like a slave because she lived in a comfortable place and had family: mom dad and brother, William and grandmother who was a very smart women. I really like it that tis essay is easy to read and simple. She is putting out her own thoughts and feeling and what she went though and told her experience. I find that very intriguing! Her mother was a respected women and even though after her mother died as a slave many respected her. I feel bad for the girl though cause She was only six years old. At age twelve the girls mistress had died and she was very sad about this because she was like a mother to her.

II. The New Master and Mistress

Both William and Linda has a hard time adjusting to their new lives. Her father died.  So now she has lost her mother father mistress and friend. Dr. and Mrs. Flint are very mean masters. They only feed the slaves when they wanted to and thats just sad. They also believed that they are property and that they should not have feeling and opinions. That is just very cruel.

III. The Slave's New Year's Day

The way that slaves are treated makes me very sad to the point of me wanting to cry because they do not deserve to be treated like this at all.

IV. The Slave Who Dared to Feel Like a Man

Linda's brother is twelve years old now and he always goes to her if he is troubled. If the slaves did not obey they were wipped and that is so mean and violent. Benjamin was another slave and he escaped but got caught and was brought back to his master. All the slaves where encouraged by family members to rely on God but sometimes it was hard because of all the hardship that they were going though. Ben had a huge free spirit and was trying to do everyint in his power to escape his misery and the wasy that he was treated. Ben was freed and is now in New York. Linda's mom paid 800 to buy Phil and was grad that they were reunited.

V. The Trials of Girlhood

Linda is going though a really hard time as a slave girl. She still always looks up to her grandma when she struggles. She saw two little children play one was a white child and the other was a slave and Linda was saddened by this image because she knew what would become of the little slave girl.

VI. The Jealous Mistress

Linda's master was mad about Linda learning how to write on her own. He also threatened to kill her if she didn't do what he wanted her to. She is now sixteen years old and Mrs. Flint got more mad. Then se had a talk with Linda and asked her questions. After she was done she had more respect for her and she told LInda that she will protect her. Yet this did not last because she was jealous and she wanted to harm Linda because she felt like she had no belonging in her husbands life. Then it talks about how when slaves fall in love and if they get married they don't really have vows which is sad.

VII. The Lover

Linda fell in love with a boy and he wanted to marry her. Then when her master heard this he was mad and told her she can't mary the free man because she was a slave and if she wanted to marry she would get married to one of his other slaves. He threatened her and said she has a second chance to improve her behavior and she is not to talk about her lover ever again. Her master wanted Linda to come to a different state with him but she did not want to. She saw her lover and saw that her master was watching them and she was scared that something bad will happen now.

X. A Perilous Passage in the Slave Girl's Life

Her lover left. Linda's master was planning to build her a house and she did not like that and she did not want to live in it. She told herself that she would have rather worked all the time. The Mr. Sands was being kind and generous to Linda and she was hoping to get revenge on Dr. Flint if she gets sold. From there everything went down hill for her and she was not pure anymore and she could not see her grandmother again. She really wanted her grandma to forgive her and by her grandmother pitied her but I don't think she truly forgave her.

XI. The New Tie to Life

Mr. Sands had a meeting with Linda's grandma and she agreed that she will take care of her child and will buy her. She was getting very sick and when she had her baby boy, he was premature. Linda still absolutely hates slavery. Over all I really liked the essay even though it was very sad. The author definitely wanted you to feel like you were almost there with her and talking about all the details that were told. Jacobs did a great job on the essay.
